How old you you have to be to register for Great Run Local?

Great Run Local welcomes children of all ages to our events.  We have a 2km run which is great for children to run for fun.

However, children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult when attending our events.

British Athletics does not allow children under the age of 11 to race 5km events. As Great Run Local is not a race, under 11’s can still take part in our 5km runs, but we recommend they don’t run the 5km every week. Our 2km run is a perfect fun run for U11’s.

Can I register more than one person under my email address?

You may want to register more than one person under your email address, for example, your child/children, however this is not possible.

Although we understand that children may not have their own email address, in order to register your child for their own Great Run Local Tag ID, you will need to set up a separate email address for them. The reason for this is that the unique email address enables us to identify each user as an individual and record their own time at each run they participate in. We don’t allow one email address to be used for multiple users.

My result/time is wrong. Can I have this amended?

Each individual Great Run Local event is responsible for making any amendments to an individual’s time. If you would think your time should be amended, please inform the event coordinator at your Great Run Local. Please note that all our events are volunteer led, so results may not be amended immediately.

I forgot to bring my wristband/card, can my result be added to the website?

It is the responsibility of each individual to remember to bring their Great Run Local card/wristband to each run. If you forget your card/wristband, your results CANNOT be added to the website.

Why am I shown as an unknown runner?

Unknown runners are clocked and added to our website if a participant has run without a wristband. If you ran with a wristband and had the wristband scanned at the end of the event, but are still showing as an unknown runner, please inform your local event coordinator and they will add your result to the website ASAP.

My text message time is different to the result on the website.

Your text message is sent to you immediately after your Great Run Local wristband has been scanned. Occasionally the volunteer starter may make a small mistake and needs to amend the start time on the phone to change or correct a mistake to ensure all times are correct. If the start time of the run needs to be corrected, this happens after each run has ended at which point text messages are not corrected after they have already been sent.

I forgot to bring my wristband/card, can my result be added to the website?

It is the responsibility of each individual to remember to bring their Great Run Local Tag ID to each run. If you forget your Great Run Local Tag ID, your results CANNOT be added to the website.

Will Great Run Local results be added to the Power of 10/Run Britain Rankings?

As Great Run Local is not a race, we do not currently include any of our results on the Power of 10 or Run Britain. Our objectives are to deliver free local events to participants that primarily provide enjoyment, improved fitness opportunities and a fun social occasion. Registered participants results will only appear online at http://www.greatrunlocal.org/runs.

How do I receive text messages informing me of my result?

In order to receive instant text messages informing you of your time post run you must have a Great Run Local wristband. What does the age grade percentage mean?

The age grade % takes your time and uses the world record best for your gender and age to produce a percentage (the higher the percentage the better). This score then allows you to compare your personal performance against other runners, irrespective of age and gender.

Please see the following link for more information: http://www.runnersworld.com/pace-calculators/age-grade-calculator

I'm having trouble logging into my account, what can I do?

There isn’t a Great Run Local near me, when will there be one setting up?

Although we would love to have a Great Run Local in areas to suit everybody, at this moment in time, we are not in a position to support so many events.

However, if you are interested in setting up an event in your community, we have a proposed role out plan which runs nationally for Great Run Local. If you contact us at info@greatrunlocal.org, we will send you a form that will support us with a delivery plan. Should a potential opportunity arise, we will then be able to inform you of expected timelines in setting up a Great Run Local in your area, should it be feasible.

Can I run at a different location?

Yes. Your Great Run Local Tag ID allows you to run at any Great Run Local throughout the UK.

Can I run with my dog?

Most of our locations allow runners to bring their dogs providing they abide by the following rules:

  • Dogs are kept on a short lead and must be under control throughout the run
  • People running with dogs should start at the back or to the side of the main group of runners to avoid trips

Please be aware that some locations may not allow dogs (please ask the event organiser prior to the event).

Can I walk?

Great Run Local welcomes everybody to their events.

Our 2km and 5km events are designed to encourage all abilities, from absolute beginners and families to more experienced regular runners. Running, jogging or walking, Great Run Local is a fun and social occasion, so you can participate at whatever pace you feel comfortable with.

How old do you have to be to volunteer?

Great Run Local welcomes volunteers from all ages. However anyone under the age of 16 who would like to volunteer MUST be accompanied by an adult. We have many children who come along with their families to help support our events and it is fantastic to see.
